SOOKE, BC – The 4th annual Vancouver Island Salmon Classic,

hosted by Sooke Harbour Resort & Marina, was held on Saturday, August 31st. Twenty-two teams participated in this year’s derby with great weather and good fishing all around. Reeling in the winning salmon at 26lb 2oz was Team Der Jager to collect the top prize of $6,600, 2nd place went to Team Reel Excitement with a prize of $3,300 for their 23lb salmon, and 3rd place went to Team Rowena’s Boys with a prize of $1,100 for their 20lb 11oz salmon. Congratulations to all the winners!

Proceeds from the cash bar and 50/50 draw were donated to the Sooke Salmon Enhancement Society. Their work with the local hatchery and restoration groups will help to ensure that the salmon populations are not overfished and will thrive for the future generations to enjoy.
